ACTIVITIES:
There are different activities to undertake depending on the season when you come.
In winter you can practise alpine skiing in the nearest resorts: Piau-Engaly and Saint-Lary Soulan in France, and Cerler in Spain. You can also go mountaineering skiing in Pineta. In February the famous Carnivals of Bielsa take place. Before summer, in May, the ânabatasâ are held (traditional river descends of rafts made of tree-trunks originally destined to reach the Mediterranean) in the river Cinca, celebrating an old local activity. You can also hunt and fish. When the nice weather arrives, innumerable trekking excursions and mountain activities can be undertaken, such as the descent of canyons, rafting, kayak, cycling routes, horse riding excursions,… or just walking around the many villages and hamlets surrounding Ainsa, each one of them worth every single visit.
SPORTS
The Sobrarbe is a region where there are plenty of possibilities to do sport. The valleys and mountains that offer spectacular, natural views also offer wonderful locations to do all sorts of sporting activities.
WATER SPORTS
Rafting and alpine kayak- mainly in the rivers Ara and Cinca.
Descents of canyons in the Añisclo valley, Escuaín and the Sierra de Guara.
Canoeing, sailing, windsurfing and motorboating in El Grado and Mediano reservoirs.
AERIAL SPORTS
Paragliding.
MOUNTAIN SPORTS
Trekking- all over the region. When mountaineering and climbing, there are lots of mountains to climb, being Monte Perdido the highest peak at 3355m. Cross-country skiing in Fanlo and Pineta.
Downhill and cross-country skiing- in the nearby resorts of Cerler (Valle de Benasque), Panticosa and Formigal (Valle de Tena), Candanchú and Astún (Valle de Canfranc) and Saint-Lary and Piau-Engaly in France.
SPELUNKING
The Sobrarbe is a nationally and internationally important area for spelunking. Here you can find more than 10% of the Spanish caves of depths of more than 300 metres. The Arañera mountain chain (between the Tendeñena peak and the Bujaruelo valley) has the deepest cave in the world (1179 metres between its upper and lower mouths). The Escuain mountain chain (integral b.15-b1), the Cave of the Punta de las Olas and the best known and accessible - Gruta helada (Frozen Cave) de Casteret are all examples of the region´s hidden treasures.
MOUNTAIN BIKING / OTHER SPORTS
Horse riding: courses are given in the already existing horse riding schools in Ainsa.
Excursions in four-wheel drives.
Hunting: in general hunting is restricted to the hunting of small game and wild boar. In the national park of Ordesa and Monte Pendido, with a special license, you can hunt the ´BUCARDO´ (Pyrenean goat) and the ´SARRIO´ (chamois).
Fishing: the most plentiful and popular type of fish is trout.
